The History

The Burrell House, circa. 1853, is proudly listed on the N.H. State Register of Historic Places. This historic Inn in Keene New Hampshire carries the name of its first owner, George Burrell. The property sits on Washington Street which, along with Court Street, provide two corridors of impressive 1800’s architecture leading to Keene’s magnificent Central Square.

Downtown Keene New Hampshire serves as the heart of the Monadnock Region. This quintessential New England region is rich with well preserved history and home to the world famous Mount Monadnock. Downtown Keene has the widest Main Street in the world and is home to beautiful Keene State College. The main street is lined with shops and restaurants and the historic Colonial Theater, with much of the way it has been for 150 years. Once known for its manufacturing, today Keene is a small “city” of about 23,000 people, and serves as the center of business activity for Southwestern New Hampshire.

The Restorations

Before being purchased in Autumn 2017, the historic Burrell House had been vacant for years. The old beauty was ready for some love and needed a new purpose. Upon purchase, the new owner, perhaps blinded by its potential, decided the vacated office building would make a great spot for a historic New England inn.

The new owner was definitely going to want some help with this lofty idea. As luck would have it, a few-in-a-lifetime friend was having second thoughts about his teaching career. So, as it was, Josh and his friend, Dave, said, “The heck with it…why not?” And off to work they went. Two and a half years later, thanks to regular encouragement from passersby, and regular help from the powers that be, they completed the project. The Burrell House was ready for business in early spring of 2020. That was not the only thing happening in the spring of 2020, and so as history will remember it, the 170 year old Burrell House patiently waited as the world around it abruptly changed. The Burrell House Inn officially opened its doors to guests in the summer of 2021. Top rated places in New Hampshire, best inn in Keene, best B&B.
